Join York Sub Aqua Club and learn to dive

Whether you are a beginner or a qualified diver from any agency – BSAC, PADI, SAA, Police or Navy – you are welcome to join us!

What are the age limits?

You need to be at least 14 years old to join York Sub Aqua Club. If you are between 14 and 18, you also need a responsible adult who is a member of York Sub Aqua Club to accompany you.

Are there any restrictions?

Scuba diving is a safe activity, however there are certain medical conditions which may mean you will not be able to dive safely.  Please refer to the BSAC Try Dive medical and responsibility declaration form.

Do I have to do more training if I’m already qualified?

No, you can dive with us within the scope of your existing qualifications but you will have the opportunity to progress in a variety of ways and we would encourage this!

How much does membership cost?

BSAC annual membership fees* £65.60
YSAC annual membership fees**             £106

*BSAC membership includes worldwide third-party insurance and a monthly subscription to SCUBA magazine

**The YSAC membership fees include training, air fills from the club compressor and membership to the sports and social club and is collected monthly. 

How much does training cost?

You can choose from a range of courses offered by BSAC, all packs are purchased through York Sub Aqua Club. The pack price includes instructor-led  training and the hire of all pool equipment to complete your qualification*+.

*+ Open water lessons are undertaken at an inland site, there will be an additional cost for entry into the site along with a hire fee for the rental of scuba equipment.  

*++If you purchased a try dive session with ourselves the cost of this will be discounted from your first course material. 

Can I learn to take photos underwater?

Yes, you can! You will have access to a wide range of BSAC Skill Development Courses – from essential Safety and Rescue skills to Seamanship, Technical Courses, Underwater Archaeology, Photography and Scientific Research, there is something for everyone!

Who will teach me?

At York Sub Aqua Club, you will find a team of skilled and friendly volunteer instructors, both men and women, who are committed to helping you reach your highest potential as a diver and enjoy every moment of it! You can also share your new skills with other new divers by becoming an instructor yourself, this is a great way to keep your skills sharp and up to date.
