Who are we?

York Sub Aqua Club: Founded in 1957, we’re a not-for-profit club and the oldest diving club in York. As proud affiliates of the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC)—the UK’s premier dive organisation—we offer internationally recognised diver training and development. Our doors are open to divers of all levels, from enthusiastic trainees to seasoned experts.

But that’s not all! We’re deeply committed to our community:

•    Community Engagement: Our facilities extend beyond our members. We welcome local community groups and youth clubs, providing them access to our diving resources. Our members volunteer at local beach cleans helping to remove waste from the Yorkshire Coastline.

•    Inclusivity: Through the “Diving for All” program, we create opportunities for divers with disabilities. Everyone deserves the thrill of exploring underwater realms, and we’re here to make it happen!

Why are we crowdfunding?
We urgently need to raise £6299 to replace essential air filters.

As a not-for-profit club operated by dedicated volunteers, we face unique challenges in maintaining and testing out equipment, while securing a local swimming pool for training. Your generous contributions directly enhance our diving experience and amplify our community impact.

Our specialised filters, responsible for removing water, oil and particulates from the air, have exceeded their lifespan. Urgent replacement is necessary to continue providing safe, clean, breathable air for scuba diving.

The lungs of the compressor – the life expired filters.

How we’ll spend the money raised
•    New Replacement Filters: We’ll acquire new replacement filters to ensure safe, clean, breathable air for our members and community groups.

•    Air Test Kit: Monitoring air quality is crucial. We’ll invest in an air test kit to assess the purity of the air we provide.

•    Long-Term Impact: These new filters are built to last, ensuring sustained air quality for years to come.

Community impact
At York Sub Aqua Club, we are passionate about creating safe and enriching experiences for our members and the broader community. Our mission is to foster a love for scuba diving and provide a welcoming space where divers of all backgrounds can explore the underwater world.

Inclusive Diving: We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the thrill of scuba diving. That’s why we are committed to making diving accessible for all, including individuals with disabilities. Our diving for All Program, led by qualified instructors and dive buddies, ensures that everyone can participate and enjoy the benefits of physical activity underwater.

Safe Equipment: None of our endeavours would be possible without the lungs of our compressor providing safe clean breathable air. We maintain our own compressor with Nitrox blending facilities, ensuring that our divers have the best quality air for their underwater adventures.
